CHAUMONT: COMEDY OR TRAGEDY

This design is inspired by the origins of theatrical scenography in ancient theatre and the fundamental contrast between Comedy and Tragedy. A system of walls divides the garden into two opposing worlds. Visitors first encounter a plain wall, then discover peepholes that allow them to observe the garden as a staged scene before choosing their path. The comedy garden represents an idyllic and humorous world with lush vegetation, climbing plants, a hanging chair and reflective polished metal, using white, yellow and green to express purity, optimism and life. The tragedy garden presents a serious and desolate atmosphere through rusty metal, burned wood, dead trees, rocks and shells, dominated by red and black, symbolizing blood, fear and hopelessness.
