This course focuses on the delivery of real estate for households and organisations. Real estate management encompasses a wide range of options and ways in which specific needs for different types of spaces and buildings can be met through the activities of public and private actors or through public-private partnership mechanisms. Students will gain a solid foundation in building theory with regard to building systematization, performance criteria and user concepts that can be applied in urban development and planning policies (e.g. building codes). Students will also learn to analyze the feasibility of a real estate project using techniques applicable to both the private sector (NPV, IRR) and the public sector (CBA) and discuss the financing of a given case project. The course combines lectures, readings and seminars as the main teaching methods.
