Urban and Regional Economics and Urban Sociology

Anotace

Social equity and inclusiveness shall be in the forefront of urban and regional planning. Urban economics is a vital foundation for understanding the dynamics of cities, offering insights into how land use, resources, and economic activities shape urban environments. Urban sociology provides a critical lens for understanding the social dynamics, cultural diversity, and community interactions that shape urban environments. In addition, students will study local economic development concepts to be able to develop strategies with spatial implications for local economic development at the neighbourhood, city or regional level based on relevant analytical findings and with respect to the regional and global economic context. The course combines lectures and tutorials as main learning methods, students will be required to read selected texts and publications and test their skills on a real-life case study.
