Radmila Fingerová Passes Away

Radmila Fingerová taught at the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University (CTU) for 17 years. Since 2018, she has led the Landscape Architecture Studio. She dedicated her professional career to the design of public spaces and private gardens.

"Modest, kind, and smiling, she will no longer brighten our earthly days with her energy. Radmila joined the faculty with a desire to teach landscape architecture to architects; she was there at the birth of this field and contributed to its public awareness and emancipation. Over the years, she influenced the attitudes of many architects, not just the young ones. She led her studios with generosity, perspective, and an emphasis on process and connection to practice. She guided students joyfully, with confidence in their abilities and independence, motivating them to pursue self-study and broaden their horizons. She believed in the power of the younger generation and their ability to change the world for the better. Always willing, approachable, and helpful—not only to students but also to colleagues. She did everything with pure motivation and a love for people and the craft; she did not pursue personal goals but sought to be a supporter and guide to others. A beautiful human being. We will miss her. However, as a patron of landscape architecture, she will continue to accompany us. Instead of mourning, Radmila would surely have wished for us to do a good deed or plant a tree," recalls her longtime colleague Hana Špalková.

Radmila Fingerová was one of the prominent figures of Czech landscape architecture. Her work reflected an extraordinary love for the field, devoid of personal ambition. Her more significant projects include the revitalization of Kostnické Square in Prague, which received the Czech Architecture Award, and the landscaping of the heritage-protected Lída Baarová Villa. She also collaborated on the renovation and revitalization of Havlíčkovy sady (Grébovka). Her work was always based on respect for the site, a thoughtful concept, and a search for lasting solutions.

She played a significant role in the activities of professional organizations. After graduating in Garden and Landscape Architecture from the University of Agriculture in Brno (1981), she became active in the Czech Chamber of Architects and other professional associations. She served on juries for architectural competitions and, between 2005 and 2007, held the position of General Secretary of the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA), representing the Czech profession at an international level.

Radmila Fingerová passed away on December 5, 2025. She was 69 years old.
