Half a Century of Creative Perspectives: CTU Faculty of Architecture Celebrates 50 Years of Independence

The year 2026 marks fifty years since architectural studies at the Prague polytechnic became an independent entity. To commemorate this occasion, the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague (FA CTU) has prepared a year-long program designed for the academic community, alumni, and the general public.

The jubilee year represents a significant historical milestone for FA CTU, as well as an opportunity to reflect on the transformation of architectural education, the evolution of the profession, and the faculty’s role in the public sphere. It enters this anniversary year as a modern educational institution built on creativity, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a responsible approach to the environment in which we live. The celebrations commemorate the year 1976, when the faculty was separated from the union of civil engineering fields. The jubilee year is accompanied by a visual style created by Matěj Činčera and Jan Kloss.

Alumni Reunion

The celebration program will offer a series of lectures, exhibitions, and meetings connecting the school’s history with contemporary themes in architecture, urbanism, landscape architecture, and design. The main highlights of the celebrations are planned for June and December. On June 25, an alumni reunion will take place at the faculty. Let us know you are coming

Spring Rolls

From March to May, the core of the spring program will be a new lecture series titled Spring Rolls. It will focus on the phenomenon of studios as "schools within a school" and will introduce alumni associated with prominent pedagogical figures such as Miroslav Šik, Jan Bočan, and Alena Šrámková. The lectures will take place on March 4 (Miroslav Šik’s Children), April 8 (Jan Bočan’s Children), and May 6 (Alena Šrámková’s Children).

Elements of Architecture

In the spring, the faculty will host the exhibition Elements of Architecture by theorist, journalist, and curator Adam Štěch. A selection of images of 20th-century modernist architecture and design will be complemented by photographs of architectural details from buildings linked to the personalities and history of FA CTU. The exhibition will run from April 20 to May 15.

FA All Around

The FA All Around project, realized in cooperation with Prague 6, will revitalize the public space of the Dejvice Campus. Students will design and implement landscaping, objects, and temporary interventions around the school. In July and August, the faculty courtyard will host a summer cinema for the public.

Meeting in the Bethlehem Chapel

On Wednesday, December 2, a ceremonial assembly of the academic community will take place in the Bethlehem Chapel.

The anniversary year is an opportunity to present the future direction of the faculty. FA CTU is currently innovating its study programs following the model of leading Western European technical universities. These changes concern both the content and structure of studies, responding to environmental, social, and technological challenges. The faculty is strengthening elective options, the individual profiling of students, and international openness.

In the new academic year, the faculty will also open the Master’s program Planning and Development, focused on current issues in urban and landscape development. Part of the long-term strategy also includes modernizing the faculty environment for teaching, research, and creative work.

"Fifty years is both a moment and an epoch in the life of an institution. For me, the faculty is not just a school, but a place where ideas are born that transform the form of settlements, landscapes, and the things around us. Every generation of students brings new energy and new questions. That is the very essence of a school—we learn from each other. Current challenges in architecture, landscape architecture, and design require collaboration across disciplines. We want to be a place where such collaboration arises naturally. This jubilee is a commitment for us to remain open, critical, and creative," says the Dean of FA CTU, Dalibor Hlaváček.

The Faculty of Architecture CTU continues a long tradition of architectural education at the Czech Technical University. Since becoming independent in 1976, it has become a major platform for shaping architectural thought. Across its three study programs—Architecture and Urbanism, Landscape Architecture, and Design—it offers students a connection between theory and practice. Its academic community consists of prominent figures from architectural and design practice, lecturers in specialized disciplines, and researchers. Together with the administrative team, they create a stable and inspiring environment for high-quality education, research, and creative work.
