From Parking Lot to Meeting Point: FA Students Breathe Life into the Streets of the Dejvice Campus

This spring, the public spaces surrounding the Faculty of Architecture will host a series of student installations and events as part of the FA All Around project. The project focuses on the piazzetta, the park between the FA and the National Library of Technology (NTK), the Faculty of Civil Engineering (FSv), and Kolejní Street, seeking new ways to utilize these areas for socializing, studying, and sports. This initiative is part of the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the faculty's founding.

The FA All Around project stems from an interdisciplinary student workshop held last year and is now entering the implementation phase. The goal is to connect faculty life with its surroundings and improve the spaces around the building for everyday use. These interventions may also serve as an impulse for further cultivation of public spaces within the broader environment of the Dejvice Campus.

From May 4 to May 7, the FA_ART Festival: Art Enjoying It Together will take place, programmatically linking with the traditional student event Lesamáj. The festival is preceded throughout April by smaller events held roughly once a week, gradually revitalizing underutilized spots around the faculty.

Changes are coming to Kolejní Street, where the faculty, in cooperation with the Prague 6 district, is preparing a temporary restriction of car traffic. A space that currently serves primarily as a parking lot should be transformed into a place for meeting, play, and sports. Simple principles of tactical urbanism, such as colorful markings on the asphalt or small-scale street furniture, will create space for table tennis, basketball, or riding scooters and skateboards.

Other projects focus on improving public spaces in the immediate vicinity of the faculty. A proposal for landscaping the greenery between the FA and FSv includes replacing the ivy under the trees with new perennial and grass undergrowth, offering seating in the shade of the trees near the faculty café. In the future, this intervention could be followed by the planting of additional trees on the concrete area in front of the faculty. A prototype for multipurpose street furniture is also being designed for the green belt between the FA and NTK.

All the installations created within FA All Around will be presented on May 25 at the opening of the Fazóna exhibition of studio works.
