International Conference reVize Typologie 2026 – Cities for AI, Cities for People? Explored the Transformation and Future Development of Cities in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

The international conference reVize Typologie 2026, subtitled Cities for AI, Cities for People?, took place on 22 April 2026 at the Center for Architecture and Metropolitan Planning (CAMP) in Prague. Organized by the Department of Building Theory at the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU), the conference created a platform for policy and research dialogue among international experts on how the development of artificial intelligence and related technologies is reshaping cities, the built environment, and everyday life.

The discussions focused on how artificial intelligence is changing the ways people live, work, and move within cities, what new demands these changes place on spatial planning, urbanism, and real estate management, and how demand for different building typologies is evolving. Particular attention was also paid to data-driven mobility, autonomous transport and logistics, and their impact on street space and urban infrastructure. The conference further addressed transformations in work and housing in the era of digitalization, as well as the adaptability of the existing building stock and the emergence of new building typologies.

Key speakers included Michal Pěchouček, Rector of the Czech Technical University in Prague, Federico Cugurullo of the National University of Singapore and Trinity College Dublin, and Nico Larco of the University of Oregon, together with other experts from academia, public institutions, and professional practice. The opening keynote lecture emphasized that artificial intelligence is becoming one of the key forces that will shape cities and the built environment in the long term, while also increasing the responsibility of professionals involved in their planning and development.

The conference confirmed the importance of an interdisciplinary approach and the need for critical reflection on technological change in relation to quality of life in cities. The conclusions of the discussions highlighted the necessity of an active role for planning and urbanism in establishing frameworks for technological development, as well as the importance of long-term strategies capable of responding to rapidly changing conditions.

The reVize Typologie conference is organized annually by the Department of Building Theory at the Faculty of Architecture of CTU under the leadership of Professor Michal Kohout and focuses on current issues in the design, management, operation, and research of the built environment. The expert guarantor and moderator of this year’s edition was Petr Návrat, coordinator of the Master’s degree programme Integrated Urban Development at the Faculty of Architecture of CTU. The conference was held under the auspices of the Czech Chamber of Architects and with the financial support of the Czech Technical University in Prague and the Faculty of Architecture of CTU. Conference partners included Penta Real Estate, RSJ, and the Association of Developers.
