The goal of this research project is to document the most commonly used window types in Czechoslovak modernist architecture during the first half of the 20th century and to assess the thermal properties of such windows. Included in the project will be an evaluation of possible methods of improvement of these properties that align with the principles of heritage conservation. The project aims to widen the theoretical basis that can be utilized by efforts for preserving historical windows in modernist buildings.

Most essays and publications on residential housing and private homes featuring visual documentation focus on the building itself and only in exceptional cases explore the building's relationship to its surroundings. In this case, the illustrated study will focus not only on the building's architecture but primarily on the environment in which it is built, including its relationship to the site's historical context and various aspects of newly created relationships. By providing additional illustrations and photographs, the survey expands on the dissertation "The Representation of Architectural Form in Photography."

An important part of the documentation of the history and development of architecture is the documentation of the individual architectural works. There are several databases developed and operated for data management of architectural works in the Czech Republic. It is a relational database or a relational object type that is best suited for this purpose. This project focuses on research into new possibilities and methods of work with managed text, raster and vector data. In the field of alfanumeric (textual) data, research will focus on finding the best solution for dealing specifically structured text describing the architectural works. In the field of image data, the research focuses on finding an appropriate solution for managing and displaying high resolution raster documents and 2D and 3D vector data. Attention will also focus on methods for displaying geographic position of works of architecture with the use of points, curves, surfaces in single and multiple layers. Implementation of the project will enable improved documentation of works of architecture in a relational database environment. It will enable more accurate and complete documentation of works. The research will use analytical and design methods of software engineering in the following steps: anlysis of current general technical methods and possibility of working with the relevant type of text and image data, evaluation of options for use in database architecture, design and implementation into the relational database model. Part of the analysis and design phase is the collection, evaluation and incorporation of user and technical requirements.

The project aims at evaluation of the existing built substance as well as emerging architectural production with respect to the impact of two principal determinants which together have a decisive influence on the final form of a work of architecture. These determinants are public interest on one hand, represented by legal norms and by the position of state to architectural and building production, and public culture on the other hand, which, as the carrier of cultural values, reflects the atmosphere in the society and the ever-changing taste responding to social and cultural circumstances. The research covers an extensive time span from early 20th century to present day, and thus takes in account the changes of social and political systems, innovations in building technologies, and the development of architectural production in the given period of time.
