Annotation

This diploma thesis focuses on the adaptation of a former textile factory building in Krásná Lípa into a new cultural center. The proposal is based on the principle of adaptive reuse, which aims to provide a new function for an existing building while preserving its historical, structural, and spatial identity. The thesis analyzes the urban, historical, and architectural context of the building and its relationship to the textile history of the town and the broader area of the Textile Valley. The main objective of the project is to find a balance between the preservation of industrial heritage and the requirements of contemporary cultural use. The proposed cultural center combines a multifunctional hall, gallery spaces, and short-term accommodation facilities, complemented by related public and operational functions. The design seeks to preserve as much of the original structure, materials, and spatial qualities of the building as possible, while new interventions are conceived as a contemporary layer that respects the character of the existing structure. The project also responds to the need for brownfield revitalization and aims to strengthen the cultural and community life of the town.
