Annotation

The diploma thesis deals with the area of the former Malinovský barracks in Košice. This military area served the needs of the army for many decades, primarily for the accommodation of soldiers, administrative purposes and ensuring military operations. After the gradual decline of military activity, the area lost its original significance and a large part of the objects today remains unused or is used only partially as storage spaces. The area is located in the wider center of Košice, in a location with good transport accessibility and significant links to the surrounding urban structure. Due to its location, it represents a significant development potential for the city. Currently, the area consists of several buildings of various nature and technical condition, while the entire area is closed and inaccessible. The urban structure of the area is isolated from the surrounding environment. The closed area of the former military area creates a barrier between the center and the surrounding urban development, which negatively affects its integration into the life of the city. Given the location of the site, its size and historical value, there is a potential for the creation of a new urban district or multifunctional space that would contribute to the development of Košice while respecting the historical character of the place. The aim of this thesis is to find a suitable functional and urban solution for the site, its connection with the surrounding city structure and the proposal of a new use that will contribute to the revitalization and revival of the entire area.
