Krnov Housing complex
Architecture and Urbanism
Annotation
This thesis presents an architectural and urban design for a housing complex on a decaying brownfield site of a former textile mill in the center of Krnov. The project aims to restore the disrupted structure of the city block. The design combines the conversion of the only surviving spinning mill building (featuring an active ground floor, offices, and loft apartments) with the construction of new residential buildings and a senior living facility on the original footprint. A key urban element is bridging the interrupted city green belt by creating a high-quality public space in the courtyard, connecting the site's history with contemporary living standards.
