Vršovice (Not the End of the World) - Comunity Center and Housing for Seniors
Architecture and Urbanism
Annotation
The building combines various functions with the goal of connecting two different groups of people – children/youth and seniors. This concept is reflected in the division and simultaneous integration of these two purposes. The underground floor is used as technical service spaces for the entire building. The ground floor and the first floor serve as spaces for a community center that can be visited by both local children and youth as well as seniors. There are suspended glass classrooms for various clubs and activities. The architectural design allows for a view from the upper floors downwards, creating a connected space that does not limit visitors but instead offers a sense of freedom and openness.
The upper floors are designated as apartments for seniors. This arrangement is intentional; living on the upper floors provides seniors with peace and privacy, as well as beautiful views of the surroundings, which can positively impact their mental well-being. Additionally, being in the same building as the community center gives them easy access to various social and cultural activities, promoting their socialization and active lifestyle. This way, seniors can feel more engaged in community life, which contributes to their overall satisfaction and quality of life.
