The Burnt Mill area in Turnov

The conversion and revitalization of the site opens its doors to the publicespecially to climbers. My design continues with an urban proposal for the Koňský trh site developed by City Upgrade. My goal is to make this neglected site with a great potential accessible. The area is located in close proximity to the city center, surrounded by the Jizera River and its millrace, and features valuable buildings dating back to 1910. I am preserving the original street-front building, while proposing the demolition of the remaining single-story halls and warehouses. I am designing a new climbing centre that strengthens the body, the spirit, and the local mountaineering tradition associated with the Bohemian Paradise and gemstone cutting. I transform the old gemstone cutting hall into a bouldering area, an artificial rock maze. The administrative building retains its original purpose. It houses the administrative facilities for the climbing center and offices for rent. The new development features an 18-meter-high climbing wall, changing rooms, restrooms, a massage room, and a café. The facade of the new climbing wall building is inspired by gemstone cutting. Geometric shapes oriented in various directions create a play of shadows and reflect the interior climbing wall. These geometric shapes are also reflected in the parks layout. Winding threshing paths and shortcuts in the form of flat stones weave a network of trails through a flower-filled meadow. The public space surrounding the building is complemented by an outdoor gym, a playground, a volleyball court, and seating steps along the Jizera River.
