Annotation

The aim of this diploma thesis is to propose a new design for the square in Vodňany and to complete the missing urban block in its north-eastern corner. The analytical part focuses on the historical development of the square and its current use. It evaluates its strengths and weaknesses, examines the relationship between users and the public space, and analyses the factors influencing the extent to which the space is actively used. The analysis also addresses climate conditions, the scale of the surrounding development, mobility, transport, and barriers present within the area. The design part is focused on the transformation of the square and the reorganisation of its functions, with an emphasis on strengthening the squares role as a public gathering space. The proposal also includes a new mixed-use building combining housing with commercial functions in an active ground floor.
