Design of a multifunctional city block in the context of the new high-speed railway station and completion of the main city boulevard (nebo principal street), Ústí nad Labem

Todays downtown Ústí nad Labem is, above all, a picture of stagnation. This is most evident in the western part, toward the Spolchemie factory. Between Malá Hradební, Revoluční, and U Trati streets lies an asphalt area roughly the size of three surrounding city blocksa remnant of the demolished bus station. Directly across from it, to the south, a high-speed rail terminal is planned. From this perspective, the current state of the site is unacceptable. In close connection with the future station and the city center, I propose to complete the site with all its layered history and local characteristics. The new block seamlessly connects to the surrounding network of streets, passageways, and a grassy strip running all the way to the Church of Our Lady. The proposed buildings are typologically and functionally diverse, representative yet unpretentious, which is appropriate for the center of this industrial city. The proposed apartment buildings aim to provide a quality of living that is currently largely inaccessible in larger cities due to cost, and conversely, here in Ústí nad Labem, they could attract interest in living in the city center.
