Vision and Concept of the Development of the Western Part of the Territory of České Budějovice
Architecture and Urbanism
Annotation
This thesis addresses the urban transformation of a selected area in České Budějovice with the aim of strengthening its role within the city and creating a fully fledged urban structure that responds to current and future needs. Based on a detailed analytical part, the main issues of the area were identified, in particular the fragmented built environment, the lack of a clear hierarchy of public spaces, weak connections between individual parts, and the underused potential of the University of South Bohemia as a key city-forming element.
The design proposal develops these findings into a coherent concept focused on establishing a legible system of public spaces, strengthening pedestrian and cycling links, developing green corridors, and creating new local and citywide centres. A fundamental principle of the proposal is the integration of the university campus into everyday urban life, the provision of quality housing, public amenities and sports infrastructure, and the support of daily movement and social interaction.
The result is an urban vision that connects housing, work, education, recreation and landscape into a cohesive whole and contributes to the long-term sustainable development of the city. The thesis demonstrates that a thoughtful approach to public space, landscape and urban connections can significantly improve the quality of the environment and create new impulses for the development of the western part of České Budějovice and the city as a whole.
