Concept for the Development of the Sítenské Valley Area in Kladno

Masters thesis addresses the conceptual design for the development of the Sítná Valley area in Kladno. The project is composed of several localities situated along the edges of the valley park. Through the proposed design, these edges are shaped and consolidated, ultimately connecting the entire city. The definition of the edges is categorized into planar, linear, and point-based. Each adjacent locality draws from these principles to varying degrees and adopts them as its own. The planar edge of the park is dominant and represents the impermeability of the territory. Consequently, connecting the city is the main conceptual principle of the entire proposal. This connection applies not only to physical routes but also to compositional principles, urban structures, and the landscape. The project draws these references from its immediate surroundings. Each site is unique and undergoes varying degrees of transformation. Considering the scale of the intervention, the localities are designed with a predominantly residential function, reflecting the highest current demand. The project targets a broad demographic, ranging from individuals and couples to students, young families, and the elderly. The overall project consists of a total of 7 localities: Pekárny, Staré Kročehlavy, Koněspřežka, U Zimáku, Poldisiedlung, GDM, and Gen. Klapálka. The Pekárny locality serves as the primary focal point of the valley's development and is elaborated in the greatest detail. Positioned exactly between the city and the park, it currently interacts with neither, existing in a sort of "no man's land." One of the major challenges is how to integrate this area into urban life without overburdening the valley's landscape. The park's edge has undergone the most significant transformation here. Instead of an impermeable boundary line, a new residential district has been created, allowing free passage between the city and the landscape with a strong emphasis on community life. The edge has also been opened up to the original horse drawn railway, which now functions as a city shaping connecting element.
