House of Democracy and Lustgarten in Potsdam
Annotation
This diploma thesis addresses the urban and architectural design of the Lustgarten in Potsdam, a site deeply marked by the turbulent succession of historical and political epochs. Rather than advocating further radical demolitions and the imposition of a single ideology, the thesis explores the possibility of applying Jürgen Habermass theory of communicative action directly within urban design. The main focus of the project is the design of the House of the Public as a place of deliberative democracy. This open, multifunctional platform seamlessly connects the park with the building and unites informal and formal civic discourse within a pluralistic society.
