Around Hradec

Hradec Králové stands out for its unique urban design based on Josef Gočárs radial-ring system, in which the outer ring was intended to function as a grand urban avenue. However, this vision was compromised by a phased implementation that was not completed until the 1970s. This, along with the growth of automobile traffic, transformed the planned boulevard into a barrier that is difficult to traverse. This thesis responds to this situation and, in connection with the upcoming diversion of transit traffic, explores the possibilities of transforming the thoroughfare back into a city-shaping element. The objective is the overall humanization of the space and the mitigation of its barrier effect.
