Filiálka

In my thesis, I focus on an area in Bratislava known as Filiálka. It is a linear area of a former railway yard that has been a no mans land for many years. The thesis focuses on its transformation with the aim of strengthening the connection between the surrounding urban neighborhoods, improving the areas inclusivity and accessibility, and preserving its landscape character. At the outset, I considered what additional function the park should serve beyond recreation and landscaping. One of the main motivations was to give the area an educational character as well. Therefore, Ive incorporated an educational layer into the design, which is reflected in the functional division of the park into three zones. One of these is a production zone focused on urban farming, which allows residents to actively participate in cultivation, learn about natural processes.Other defining layers of the design were also inspired by the existing atmosphere of the site itselfits gradual overgrowth, transience, and rootlessness, as well as the long, ribbon-like character of the former railway terrain, which seems to go on forever. It is precisely these qualities that I decided to preserve and further develop in the design, rather than suppress them. The current state thus becomes the starting point for the parks new identity, which works with the natural succession, fragmentation, and linear structure of the site.
