PLACE FOR COEXISTENCE - Všehrdova Street Prague 1

The subject of this bachelors thesis is the design of a mixed-use residential building located in the historic centre of Prague on Všehrdova Street in the Malá Strana district. The site is situated within a gap in a stabilized urban block structure with high urban value and is suitable for infill development along the existing street frontage. The building is designed as a compact mass responding to the scale and character of the surrounding urban fabric and to the direct proximity of the Church of St. John the Baptist Na Prádle. The proposal combines residential use with civic amenities at ground floor level, including a coworking space and a café. This activates the street frontage and strengthens both social and community functions of the area. Upper floors contain residential units of small and medium size. The urban concept is based on the traditional block structure and completes the existing street line. The architectural design is contemporary, minimalist, and materially restrained, with emphasis on functionality, façade rhythm, and high-quality daylight conditions. The project includes a usable green roof that extends living space and improves microclimatic conditions within the dense urban environment. The building is connected to existing technical infrastructure and meets requirements for accessibility, fire safety, energy efficiency, and hygiene standards. The design is supported by geotechnical, hydrogeological, radon, and archaeological data confirming the suitability of the site for construction.
