45 x 35 Kadaň

The bachelor's thesis 45×35 Kadaň focuses on the technical design of a residential building based on a study from the preceding semester. The building is located in the Špitálské předměstí district of the town of Kadaň, in a newly re-parcelled area that includes a proposal to revitalize a stream that once ran through the historic suburb, which was demolished in the 1960s and 1970s. The new development in this area is structured around the newly created stream channel, which serves as its compositional axis. The proposed building bridges this composition with a steel bridge consisting of two separate structures made of I-profiles. The building has four above-ground floors and one underground floor. The main load-bearing structure is a reinforced concrete wall system with one-way spanning floor slabs. The basement is connected to the neighboring building, separated by an expansion joint and a dedicated fire compartment. The façade is designed as a ventilated cladding system with brick klinker tiles on the lower floors, transitioning on the upper floors to weathering steel sheeting (Atmofix), whose articulation evokes the folded tiles of pitched roofs and thus references the typology of the local built environment. The building is equipped with features that reduce its operational demands and environmental impact a photovoltaic power plant with battery storage, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, a greywater reuse system for low-volume toilet flushing, and exterior shading blinds.
