New Malovanka: from barrier to connection

On Thursday, October 30, the Skleňák Gallery hosted the grand opening of an exhibition of works by students of the Valouch–Stibral–Semerák studio entitled New Malovanka: From Barrier to Connection. The exhibition presents ten designs for New Malovanka, the area around the interchange near Prague Castle. Half of the designs were created in collaboration with teams of varying sizes, while the other half were created independently by individual students. The approaches vary – from completely suppressing the existence of the intersection and integrating it into the surrounding urban structure, through various ways of incorporating the structure above the intersection into the urbanism of the new location, to a solitary bridge. Each of the designs had to deal with the complex geometry of the site, propose a basic structural scheme, and create the most natural connection to the surrounding streets.
