CASCADE HOUSE

Aneta Calábková

Annotation

The cascading semi-detached building is located at the boundary of Nusle and Vršovice, near the Vršovice railway station and Havlíček Gardens. It completes an urban block that had long lacked a clear structure and closes its western edge with a defined volume. The concept is based on the principle of a living organism that adapts to its surroundings. The design respects the street line and existing urban order. Towards the street, the mass appears calm and disciplined, while towards the inner courtyard it gradually opens up into a more flexible spatial structure with terraces and outdoor living areas. An open circulation system with external bridges forms an integral part of the architectural expression and creates an intimate courtyard environment.
