Northern Wall – Revitalization of the former hospital complex

Bc. Kateřina Veselá

Annotation

The historic center of Domažlice was originally enclosed by fortification walls, demolished during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Their removal led to a city thoroughfare forming the backbone of urban design. The project focuses on the northwestern section of the former walls, including the former hospital site, sports facilities, and a parking area. These places were chosen for poor condition, structure, and development potential. Traffic is calmed by narrowing lanes, adding trees, and widening sidewalks. The hospital site is redeveloped with housing, a ground floor, and a green courtyard with a rain garden. The parking area uses greenery and permeable surfaces. Sports grounds near the Sokol hall serve schools and the public, connect to the park, and improve pedestrian movement.
