Memory of River Crafts – Towpaths of the Vltava in the Landscape
Annotation
The diploma seminar focuses on towpaths along the Vltava River as a historical landscape infrastructure linked to log driving, barge navigation and other river crafts. These paths shaped the river landscape and human–river relationships for centuries but gradually disappeared due to technological changes and the construction of the Vltava Cascade. The remaining fragments represent rare traces of historical ways of life and landscape memory. Selected sites along the Vltava illustrate different expressions of this memory in natural and urban contexts. The project aims to recall the river’s role as a cultural and movement axis and to revive the memory of now largely forgotten river crafts.
