THE GATEHOUSE

The residential building is situated at a key urban junction between the lower part of Žižkov and the Vítkov Hill. The mass is divided into two volumes in order to create a pedestrian passage. The staircase between them primarily functions as a vertical connection linking the elevated landscape of Vítkov with the lower street level. The glazed inner facades of both volumes are set at a slight angle toward each other, creating a condition of visual and spatial convergence that suggests a getaway, while remaining physically separated and preserving the openness of the passage.
