EAST OR WEST, HOME IS BEST

Community, connection, restart. These three pillars shape the design of a homeless shelter and its surroundings in Prague-Řepy. The project provides a temporary sanctuary for those in housing need seeking a fresh start. It aims to create an environment of dignity and stability, rather than just a functional facility. The design responds to the high concentration of homeless individuals near the tram terminus, a result of displacement from the city center. The building combines various housing types — from night shelters to long-term apartments — with a day center and basic healthcare. A key element is the inclusion of community spaces for both residents and the public. By fostering shared activities, the project seeks to break down social barriers and a successful return to ordinary life.
