"UN"planned ROHAN
Annotation
Yellow streetlights, narrow alleys, markets, and the proximity of the river. The atmosphere of historic cities is difficult to capture in words. Can it be reproduced? Through the Malá Strana 2.0 assignment, we explore the logic of unplanned settlements. Research by Eda Shaur shows that these structures naturally operate with efficient movement patterns and respond sensitively to the local context. By identifying the principles behind the charm of Malá Strana, we translate them to the Rohan area. An existing developer-led project sets a benchmark, which we deliberately exceed in the proposal "UN"planned Rohan. The design follows an experimental approach based on urban syntax and a custom set of rules, operates at a human scale, and emphasizes public amenities.
