MOST: COMMUNITY
Annotation
The only buildings remaining after the demolition of Old Most—once built outside its borders, now an integral part of its fabric. My project focuses on the transformation of the 1906 infantry barracks into a vibrant hub for community services, housing, and office spaces. Situated at an important intersection, the building acts as a gate to the district and already serves the local community—a role my design further reinforces.
Despite respecting the building’s heritage and value, I do not hesitate to break through the structure where it is a barrier. I am reversing the hierarchy of the facades: the original rear of the house is now opened up to the street, creating a new entrance. The ground floor is made accessible via a new platform, while the basement hall is reached with stairs.
