In this thesis, I aim to demonstrate that a railway station does not have to be merely a grey, transitory place where one impatiently waits for the train in order to leave as soon as possible. Rather, it is a public space like any other and a setting for a wide range of human stories. The first ticket purchased, a journey to visit ones grandmother, a cup of coffee from the corner café that makes the daily commute more pleasant, a trip with friends, or the everyday routine of the clerk behind the service counter. Countless people and countless situations unfold here, and they need not take place in a worn and neglected departure hall.
