Exhibition of Studio Projects

Annotation

The proposed City Art Gallery building is located in the historic centre of Prague, directly on Republic Square. The building is situated at the edge of the square, its position thus frames and defines the squares outline. At the same time, it serves as a vertical and compositional counterbalance to the Hybernia building. The interior is dominated by a central circular atrium that brings light deep into the layout. The facade is designed using a tectonic system of heavy, protruding, and recessed exposed prefabricated sandwich panels. The internal structural system is designed as a monolithic reinforced concrete structure. Due to extremely complex foundation conditions the structure is founded on on a combination of transverse and longitudinal prestressed concrete beams.
