"Mom, I'm going to the end of the building with the boys to climb the boulders!" "Sure, I'll be on the roof with dad watering the tomatoes, and tell your brother to buy fresh salmon at the market for dinner!" We see the longhouse as a linear structure combining housing and community life. Its communal part acts as a public shelter – an open space for everyone, free to use. Connected to the courtyards of surrounding buildings, it flows through the house both horizontally and vertically, making the building part of the public realm. Housing and shared functions coexist, creating unexpected views and encounters. From the galleries you overlook courtyards and the market, from stairways the pool, workshops, and roof, and from the stands the sports field. The longhouse becomes a small city.
