Peeled

The project of an integrated fire and rescue station near the Nusle Bridge negates the conventional notion of a monumental technical building. The concept is based on a single radical gesture – slicing and peeling up the top layer of the urban terrain. A coordinated facility for the emergency services is inserted into the newly created spatial pocket, while a continuous green park is formed on the surface of the elevated ground. Here, the architecture does not compete with the scale of the Nusle Bridge; it becomes the landscape itself, giving more back to the city than it takes.
