Contemporary circus

The former slaughterhouse building in the Holešovice Market Hall, with its generous vertical dimension and large-scale hall configuration, offers a compelling setting for theatrical use. By clearing the current supermarket layout, a new third hall is created for circus purposes, more spacious in plan than the existing ones. This space is complemented by an added structure that raises the building to a height of twenty metres. Its form follows the typology of the historic halls, while simultaneously contrasting with a translucent, backlit façade made of polycarbonate panels, partially dissolving the boundary between interior and exterior. The dominant feature of the new hall’s foyer is an inserted entrance staircase integrated within the translucent envelope.
