House with a bookshop and tea shop

Annotation

The sloping site, with access from two different street levels, allowed us to design a house consisting of two volumes that naturally responds to the surrounding environment and the movement of people through the space. The concept is based on connecting two independent masses by an open staircase, which serves not only as a transportational element, but also as a spatial and visual link between the two buildings. Open on both sides, the staircase enables natural airflow and creates a semi-public space that connects the individual functions of the house. The building is accessible both from the lower and upper street, from which a bridge leads directly to the second floor. This solution responds to the site’s changing topography and enables natural movement between the different levels.
