Erasmus Exhibition

Annotation

The weight, austerity, permanence, and stability as the main attributes of the volcanic black soil of the Canary Island of El Hierro become the key elements of the design of a regional airport terminal. The reduced form and materiality emphasize and highlight these attributes. In contrast, the interior spatial arrangement deviates from the strict rhythm and, through this provocation, reinforces it in return. The runway, as an infinite line that does not belong to nature, in contrast with the sharp cliffs, volcanic landscape, and ever-moving sea, becomes the main guide and fundamental factor of the design.
