The Horizon of Silence

Annotation
The Žatec Cemetery is a place where the memory of the town and its inhabitants is preserved. In the past, its spatial structure was clearly defined by avenues of trees. This structure has been largely diluted nowadays. The same applies to the entrance, which used to be very significant. Today, it is a testament to the general decline of cemetery architecture in this country. My design was therefore to open up the space and restore its original design - the original intended double entrance and symmetry. This would involve clearing the coniferous trees and shrubs and repaving the area. The front of the buildings and the entrance should be cultivated. I proposed separating the different areas with a wall containing niches, adjacent to the cemetery wall, to create a horizon of silence.
