OPENING UP VYŠEHRAD

Annotation
The proposal introduces a new entrance gate that opens up Vyšehrad and links it with New Town and Vinohrady. A key feature is a passage carved through the Baroque bastion, aligned with the axis of the view towards the Basilica of St. Peter and Paul. The elevation is resolved by a ramp inserted between massive brick walls. A new entrance to the historic casemates is created at the breach, extended by an underground gallery beneath the bastion. The interrupted path along the wall is restored by a subtle footbridge and a new stairway from the Rotunda of St. Martin. The design sensitively interacts with the historic structure while expressing a contemporary architectural language rooted in material honesty, light, and spatial clarity.
