Under the Nusle Bridge

Jan Kakos

Annotation

The building is strongly defined by its relationship to the bridge. It reflects it with its linearity, use of sloping elements and its material. The bridge is like a roof over this building and the design works with this idea of “not needing a roof” and expresses it in the form of a glass roof. This creates an interesting effect, when after sunset the activity inside the building will illuminate the bridge above it. A passage through the building is placed on the axis of the street. Glazed entrances are located in this passage which in the evening turn the passage into a light tunnel. The roughness of the concrete is balanced by street art placed on parts of the facade.
