Annotation
Otakar The Cantilever - a bookworm, patron of Otakarova St. and a bit of a visionary. The new library is dedicated to him.
I am designing a library and apartment buildings in Otakarova St., where it closes the gap of an unclosed block and creates a community center while also utilizing the potential of the newly introduced metro station. The library is framed by apartment buildings defining a city-forming character.
The main characteristic is a system of beams on which cantilevered floors are suspended using rods. This lightens the layout, responds to the metro vestibule and creates a covered space in connection with a busy tram stop. In relation to Otakarova, the facade is more contact and open.
The library enlivens the area, which lacks a community center, and strengthens its ties.
