Reduce Reuse Recycle Remember

Forms of death in the city are spatial, literal, abstract. One of them is the cemetery, a place of endings and remembrance, which has become a matter of the periphery, disappearing from the center. It is a spatial void, disrupting the urban fabric with its scale, but also an abstract void where a person’s departure leaves emptiness in the life of the city and family. The city itself, right in its center, is also dying, leaving behind traces of final departure, imprints of time, urban voids. These voids have the potential to become a reminiscence of the end, new spaces for contemplating the transience of time, materiality and human existence. To perceive them means to enter into a dialogue with death, not in its literalness, but in its material remains. Emptiness is a death made spatial.
