VERONA 2099

Bc. Martin Novotný

Annotation

The project explores climate adaptation of Verona's historic center in response to the 6th IPCC report's worst-case scenario for 2099, which predicts a 6°C temperature rise and summer peaks of up to 48°C. Located within a UNESCO World Heritage site, the intervention is designed with respect for the city's architectural heritage. The proposal focuses on strategic shading using retractable PVC fabric sails inspired by ancient velaria. A cable system above Piazza delle Erbe allows for changing the sails annually, encouraging artistic and civic participation. Water features and newly planted greenery contribute to microclimate cooling and reduce heat stress in public spaces.
