Open stage at Vyšehrad

Jan Ryček

Annotation

The open stage at Vyšehrad, now home to Divadlo DVA, lacks essential facilities for both performers and the public. My design introduces underground toilets, a partially sheltered bar, and backstage spaces on a cantilevered structure that preserves open passage and protects a memorial ash tree. It also reopens the historic entrance from Výtoň through the casemates, with skylights bringing daylight into the underground and visually connecting it to the terrain. I see Vyšehrad as a crater within the walls – a quiet inner landscape with its own rhythm, balanced between city and nature. The proposal responds with subtlety, guided by movement and views within the park.
