Annotation
In today’s society shaped by constant pressure for performance, efficiency, and mobility, movement can no longer be perceived as neutral. Architecture often becomes a tool of this efficiency. Stairs, escalators, and elevators are treated as mere connectors designed to process people as quickly as possible. We seek to challenge this perspective within the iconic building of the Czech Embassy in Berlin. Our aim was not only to mechanically increase accessibility, but to create a space for experience and pause. People here do not have to be divided into those who stand on the right and those who rush past on the left. It's not a rejection of movement, but an acknowledgment that architecture has the right to slow time and offer space simply to “be,” even where people once only passed through.
