POROSITY
Annotation
The work began with a metaphor—the story of a solitary bee, which became our "second client" for the assignment. We discovered that it needs a porous environment, sufficient food, and an environment that is tangential to nature. We developed this metaphor on several levels: we sought to identify what constitutes a natural environment for campus users, what softness actually is, what constitutes a sufficient number of nature-like elements, and finally, what porosity actually is. This became the central theme of our work, and we applied it on several scales—we used its softness in urban planning and landscape design through a dramatic increase in the ratio of unpaved areas and the sensitive integration of public space functions that are currently lacking between universities.
