Zlíchov Monastery

Annotation

Perched on Zlíchov Hill, stands a monastery of fifteen Cistercian monks—servants of prayer and labor. Following the Benedictine tradition, their days are shaped by contemplation and manual work. They craft herbal remedies from herbs they grow themselves. The monastery has two levels: the basement holds a workshop, storage, and sanitary rooms, above lie the dormitory, refectory, and chapter hall. A cloister links them to a garden, where a solitary tree stands—symbol of creation. The cloister leads to the church—the monastery’s heart, its rhythm guiding monastic life. The green roof blends with the landscape. The building’s minimalism draws from Cistercian aesthetics. Here, architecture becomes a quiet companion on the journey toward eternity.
