Sleeping Wrecks

Agata Špergerová

Annotation

The enveloping footbridge, a silent witness to an industrial past, with its enclosed composition, evokes the hard labor of workers in the deep shafts of the Engerth mine. Rusting steel structures, remnants of mining equipment, are losing their technical significance and are gradually disappearing beneath a layer of thriving vegetation. The grating, forming not only the footbridge but also the nearby staircase, is a light and delicate material that allows nature to take its course—slowly growing through, engulfing, and eventually transforming the industrial character of the place into a symbiosis of ecological succession. The past is not forgotten here, but gently overshadowed by the power of nature.
