Zlíchov monastery

Annotation
This work deals with the design of a monastery for 15 Cistercian monks, situated close to the church of St. Philip and St. James in Zlíchov. The design responds to the specific context of the site, the sunken terrain and the distinctive façade of the church. The monastery is set into the terrain so that it does not disturb the surrounding environment and harmoniously relates to the existing sacral building. The Garden of Eden is conceived as a sunken space - seen from the outside as a 'hole' in the landscape - providing tranquillity and privacy. The monastery includes living quarters, operational facilities and a wine cellar as an economic component. The aim of the design is to create a contemporary monastic complex that respects the history of the site and enriches its cultural value.
