HOUSE FOR A JOINER AND A PASTRY COOK

Mikulas Brabec

Annotation

A semi-detached house on a sloping plot in Prague’s Petřiny district consists of two units – one for a joiner, the other for a pastry chef. The buildings are linked by a shared outdoor staircase and a terrace between the pastry shop and public workshop. Public spaces (pastry shop with kitchen and public workshop) are located on the upper floor, while private areas are situated on the lower level. The joiner’s unit connects living and working areas via an exterior spiral staircase, while the pastry chef’s house offers access to a rooftop terrace overlooking the valley. Despite their different professions, the house responds as a unified form to the site environment.
